An official source at Qatar's Al-Rayyan club revealed that former France coach Laurent Blanc will oversee the first football team.

The source said that Plan "will be presented at a press conference this evening, with a contract of 18 months."

Blanc, 55, world champion 1998 and Europe 2000 with his country, supervised Bordeaux (2004-2007), Paris Saint-Germain (2013-2016) and France (2010-2012).

The former Barcelona player, Inter Milan and Manchester United have not supervised any team since 2016.

Blanc succeeds the Uruguayan, Diego Aguirre, who, according to what was announced, resigned from his post for private reasons.

In terms of training, he led Blanc Bordeaux to the league title in 2009, and Saint Germain to the crown three times between 2014 and 2016.

Saint-Germain announced that he was leaving Blanc on 27 June 2016, and since then he has moved away from training duties.

Al-Rayyan is currently ranked sixth in the Qatari league, 12 points behind the leaders Al-Sadd after 9 stages, and has won the league title 8 times, compared to 14 for the record holder Al-Sadd.
