The conclusion of the document on complementary standards to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination should be accelerated, so as to complete the legal framework at the international level in order to avoid shortcomings in dealing with contemporary forms of racism.

This was during his address to the high-level meeting to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action.

"Today's meeting is a confirmation of the commitment to the path laid down in the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, and we trust that all Member States share Egypt's concern to implement its commitments under the Political Declaration adopted this morning."

It should be noted that the twentieth anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action is coming at a crucial juncture in the global struggle against racism and racial discrimination, creating new momentum to review the efficiency of previous actions, review challenges, address shortcomings and commit to urgent and effective action against racism and racial discrimination. The meeting is to be held at the level of Heads of State and Government.
