On October 27, the French city of Cannes witnessed a symbolic ceremony for the opening of the Cannes International Film Festival.
Festival organizers said that its short program includes only 4 films. A short film competition will also be held as part of the festival.
The president of the festival, Pierre Lescourt, told the French "Agence France Presse" that the festival organizing committee has taken all possible precautions to prevent the spread of the Corona virus. All festival participants were informed of the need to wear face masks and adhere to social distancing measures, and the committee asked the guests not to stay for a long time on the ladder of the Festivals Palace.
The festival president explained that the achievement of the shortened program is a symbol of respect for film artists. At the opening ceremony of the festival's short program, he showed the film "Victory", directed by Amanuel Korcol. In the following two days, "Real Mothers", directed by the Japanese, Naomi Kawase, and "The Beginning", directed by Georgian Dia Columbegashvili, who entered the program of the "San Sebastian" International Film Festival, will also be shown.
As for the remaining films selected by the festival jury, they were awarded the status of "Honorary Participant" at the "Cannes" Film Festival.
It is noteworthy that the "Cannes" International Film Festival 2020 was postponed from last May to this October due to the spread of the Corona virus epidemic in the world.
