The Israeli army announced today (Saturday) that a rocket fired from Yemen hit Israeli territory in the center of Tel Aviv after attempts to intercept it failed, resulting in 16 people being slightly injured, according to ambulance services.
“Following the launch of a missile from Yemen and the activation of alarms in central Israel, unsuccessful interception attempts were made,” army spokesman Avichai adrai said via the X platform, adding that “the details are still being examined”.
The Israeli ambulance service “Red Star of David” said that 16 people were injured.
“The teams of the Red Star of David service provided medical care to 16 people who suffered minor injuries due to shards of glass from windows that shattered in nearby buildings due to the impact of the blow,”an ambulance service statement said.
Israeli media reported that the rocket landed in Bnei Brak, east of Tel Aviv.
The Houthis in Yemen said today (Saturday) that they bombed a military target in the Jaffa area in central Israel with a ballistic missile, the “Reuters” news agency reported.
The Houthis ‘ military spokesman, Yahya Srei, said in a statement that the movement targeted “a military target of the Israeli enemy in the occupied Jaffa area, with a Palestine-2 Type hypersonic ballistic missile”.
The Israeli military announced on Thursday morning that it had launched airstrikes on Houthi” military targets ” in Yemen in an attack that followed the interception of a rocket fired by the Iranian-backed group.
Since November 2023, the Houthis have been launching attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden from areas under their control in Yemen, in what they consider “support” for the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where a devastating war has been going on between Israel and Hamas since the seventh of October 2023.
In July 2024, the explosion of a booby-trapped rally in Tel Aviv in an attack carried out by the Houthis killed an Israeli civilian. In response to that attack, Israel launched retaliatory strikes on Yemen’s coastal province of Hodeidah.
