The leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, Ahmed Al-Shara, aka Abu Mohammed al-Julani, called for the lifting of sanctions imposed on the regime of Bashar al-Assad, in addition to his group classified as a terrorist by the United States of America and the European Union, and others, in an interview with the newspaper “The Times”.
Golani said he would not allow his country to be a platform for “launching attacks against Israel” or any other country.
The leader of the commission warned Tel Aviv to continue its airstrikes, calling on it to withdraw from the territories seized after the fall of Assad, noting that its bombing of Syrian territory was “due to the presence of Hezbollah and Iranian militias,” but this justification “is over,” as he put it.
Al-Shara also stressed their commitment to the 1974 disengagement agreement, saying: “we do not want any conflict either with Israel or with others, the Syrian people are tired and need to catch their breath.”
Regarding his classification as a terrorist, al-Julani said that this charge was” political “and fits” the activity of the Assad regime, “adding that countries should retract this classification, as Syria, as he put it, is a region of geostrategic importance, and if the executioner is gone, they should lift the sanctions on the victim.
As for the protection of minorities, Golani pointed out that he had met with the heads of Christian and Druze communities to reassure them, noting that he would launch a general amnesty for everyone, except for those “whose hands are stained with blood”.
He added that the next political direction will be to plan for the transition period, which is likely to be long, according to one of his advisers.
