Former Nepalese PM prepares to leave the Country Amid Unrest

Date:

September 11, 2025, Kathmandu, Nepal

Reports from Kathmandu indicate that former Nepalese Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli is preparing to leave the country in the wake of his resignation and the continuing violent protests. Citing unnamed sources and local television reports, several news outlets claim that Oli may be seeking to flee the country, with some speculating a trip to Dubai under the guise of medical treatment. This comes as the political situation remains volatile, with protestors defying curfews and demanding accountability for the deadly clashes.

The speculation surrounding his departure intensified following sightings of helicopters in the Lalitpur area and reports of a private airline on standby for his use. This adds another layer of drama to a crisis that has already seen the burning of his private residence in Bhaktapur, as well as the federal parliament building and the homes of other senior political figures. The public outcry, fueled by allegations of rampant corruption and nepotism, has made the political landscape untenable for the country’s former leader.

The status of his departure, however, remains unconfirmed, and it is unclear if he has already left or is still within Nepal. The Nepali Army, which has been deployed to restore order, has reportedly stated that they do not have information on his whereabouts. The former Prime Minister’s potential flight from the country would mark a dramatic climax to a political career that has now ended abruptly in the face of widespread public anger and a crisis that has been years in the making.
