The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced three new crude oil and natural gas discoveries in the Western Desert, west of Cairo.
The ministry stated in a statement on its official Facebook page that “Khalda Petroleum Company has succeeded in making three new crude oil and gas discoveries in its concession areas in the Western Desert.”
Egypt has proved oil reserves of 3.3 billion barrels. The country has four main areas of oil production: Gulf of Suez, Western Desert, Eastern Desert, and Sinai. The Suez and Belayim blends come from aging offshore fields in the Gulf of Suez and are refined domestically, with only small quantities exported.
The statement added that these discoveries “will add an estimated reserve volume of approximately 12 million barrels of oil equivalent and a recoverable reserve of 4 million barrels of oil equivalent.”
It continued, “The discoveries have been tested and evaluated, with a daily production rate of approximately 2,750 barrels of oil and condensates and 20 million cubic feet of gas. The associated gas reserve is currently being calculated by Khalda.”
The statement indicated that these discoveries will raise Khalda Gas Company’s production above 480 million cubic feet of gas, reaching 500 million cubic feet in the near future.
Khalda Petroleum is a company in the Egyptian petroleum sector, established in 1985 as an Egyptian joint stock company.
There are 57 companies operating in Egypt in the field of exploration, production, and research, including eight major international companies, six specialized Egyptian companies, and more than 12 international companies specializing in petroleum and technology services.
Last January, the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced a new natural gas discovery in the Badr-1 area in the Western Desert, with proven reserves estimated at 15 billion cubic feet of gas.
