Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) and General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) Mohab Mamish said that the mega development projects aim to boost the national income, increase foreign currency, provide job opportunities for the youth and raise the living standards of the citizens.

During President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s inauguration of national projects in Ismailia, Mamish noted that such projects that have been implemented upon directions of President Sisi contribute to promoting the value added of the Suez Canal and developing the area surrounding it through establishing national projects.

These projects also help in connecting Sinai with the homeland and improving the infrastructure nationwide, Mamish further said. He pointed out that the global trade flows in the Suez Canal in December 2017 increased by 12.2 percent in view of ships transiting the waterway, compared with the same period in 2016.

Navigation activities in the Suez Canal between January and December 2017 surged 4.6 percent, compared to the same period in 2016, Mamish said adding that navigation movement also hit a record high in December as 74 vessels have crossed the waterway in both directions with a total cargo of 5.2 million tons in a day.
