China and the United States have held "constructive" talks on trade in Washington, the official Xinhua news agency said.

The two countries agreed to keep in touch on related issues and discussed details of the next round of trade talks in October, Xinhua said, without giving details.

US stocks fell after a Chinese agricultural delegation canceled a planned visit to Montana next week, dispelling optimism about US-China trade talks.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 160.19 points, or 0.59 percent, to 26,934.6. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 15.08 points, or 0.50 percent, at 2,991.71. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 65.21 points, or 0.8 percent, at 8,117.67.
