China Expresses Readiness to Facilitate Pakistan-India Ceasefire Efforts

The People’s Republic of China has reiterated its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire between Pakistan and India, emphasizing its constructive role in promoting regional stability. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed this stance during a telephone conversation on Saturday with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

As a neighboring country to both Pakistan and India, China has expressed deep concern regarding the ongoing hostilities between the two nations. Wang conveyed his condolences for the civilian casualties in Pakistan and underscored China’s unwavering support for Islamabad in its pursuit of national sovereignty and dignity.

The foreign minister emphasized that any ceasefire agreement must be mutually upheld to prevent the recurrence of hostilities. He further highlighted that a lasting ceasefire would serve the interests of both parties, contribute to regional peace and security, and align with the broader expectations of the international community.

Acknowledging Pakistan’s contributions to global counterterrorism efforts, Wang reiterated China’s support for its firm stance against terrorism. Additionally, he expressed confidence that Pakistan would implement effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens residing within its borders amid the prevailing tensions.

In response, Dar conveyed Pakistan’s willingness to engage in ceasefire negotiations with India while remaining prepared to address any violations of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He expressed gratitude for China’s diplomatic efforts in mediating discussions to de-escalate hostilities and affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining close coordination with Beijing in pursuit of a peaceful resolution.

China’s proactive engagement in facilitating dialogue underscores its broader commitment to regional stability and diplomatic cooperation, further reinforcing its role as a key stakeholder in South Asian affairs.
