Brazilian President Lula da Silva discharged from hospital after successful brain surgery

Date:

Brazilian President Lula da Silva left the hospital this Sunday, after undergoing emergency surgery in the early hours of Tuesday, December 10 last.

The Brazilian President’s medical team confirmed the speed of his recovery, as he was not expected to be discharged from the hospital before the beginning of next week.

“Given the patient’s condition, given the speed of his recovery, which was largely above expectations, the treating team and I were pleased that the president was discharged from the hospital,”said Dr. Anna Helena germoglio at a press conference.

The president made a statement at the event held on the occasion of his discharge from the hospital. “I’m healthy, I’m going home,” he said, stressing that he is “alive, healthy and more ready to work .”

Lula da Silva had undergone emergency surgery to drain a blood clot in the brain, which appeared after a fall at the Alvorada Palace, his official residence, last October.

“I was feeling light in my feet, my eyes were red and I was very sleepy. When I went to the doctor at six o’clock in the evening, they saw the CT scan and got scared. They asked me to urgently come to Sao Paulo,” explained the Brazilian president, who emphasized that he was frightened by the whole procedure. “I was afraid of the volume of fluid in my head,”said Lola.

On Thursday morning, the Brazilian leader underwent a head operation, which was a complement to the first operation performed on him in order to prevent future intracranial hemorrhages.

Despite the early discharge from the hospital, Lula is expected to remain in Sao Paulo until Thursday, when a new CT scan will be performed to assess the clinical condition of the 79-year-old politician.

He will then be able to return to Brasilia, with medical recommendations that he should go on relative rest for about 15 days, after which he will be able to resume his usual work. However, cardiologist Roberto Khalil has confirmed that the president will have to be careful over the next month. “Some restrictions will be imposed on him over the next thirty days, such as physical activity and international travel,”he said.

During his stay in the hospital, the Brazilian president kept his people and the world informed about his health condition, as he published many publications on social media, especially from the Syrian-Lebanese hospital where he was undergoing treatment.

Lola’s last visit to the hospital came in the wake of a domestic accident. The Brazilian leader fell to the ground when he was at home at the end of last October, where he suffered a small cerebral hemorrhage and bruising to the head that required suturing surgery.
