After the failure of the meeting between Trump, Kim, now the The leader of the Republic of north Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un will visit Russia for a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the DPRK's state media confirmed.
PWith his Russia visit, Kim is seen working to build up foreign support for his economic development plans, since the breakdown of the second U.S.-DPRK summit in Hanoi in February led to stalled talks with Washington on the sanctions relief Pyongyang had sought.
State media Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said the visit will happen "soon," but did not elaborate the time or the venue.
Putin and Kim are on track to meet by the end of April, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.
Kim Jong Un's chief aide, Kim Chang Son, was seen in Vladivostok on Sunday according to South Korean news agency Yonhap, leading to speculation that the Putin-Kim summit will be held in the city around April 24-25.
NK News, a group that follows the DPRK, showed photos on its website on Monday of preparations underway at Vladivostok's Far Eastern Federal University, likely to host part of the summit, with workers installing DPRK and Russian flags.
After the diplomatic failure at the Hanoi summit, Kim is likely looking to prove that he is still being sought after by world leaders, and that he has more options, said Artyom Lukin, a professor at Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok.
President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the G20 summit in the Argentine capital on September 29, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held talks about a bilateral peace treaty in the city of Vladivostok in Russia's Far East on Monday.
In their talks on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum, the two leaders were also expected to discuss joint economic activities on a group of disputed islands.
The two countries have not signed a peace treaty since World War Two because of a dispute about the islands, known as the Kuril Islands in Russia and the Northern Territories in Japan.
After talks with Abe, Putin added that Russia is ready to boost cooperation on the basis of the principles of good neighborliness and mutual interests and maintain contacts with Japan to support inter-Korean dialogue.
Putin said his country is ready to find solutions on a peace treaty with Japan that would be welcomed by both sides.
The Japanese prime minister said that a peace treaty between Tokyo and Moscow is a historic task that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin need to achieve, Russian News Agency TASS said.
Speaking before the meeting, Abe said he would be seeking progress on the territorial dispute and the signing of a treaty. When it ended, he confirmed that "talks with Putin are moving towards a peace treaty."
