The foundation “longevequest”, specializing in documenting centenarians around the world, announced that the Brazilian nun INAH cannabaro, at the age of 117, has officially become the oldest living person in the world.

According to the foundation, kanabaru was born on June 8, 1908, but her 84-year-old nephew confirms that her actual date of birth is May 27 of the same year, as her birth was registered two weeks late.

Residence

The nun currently resides in the southern Brazilian city of Porto Alegre, where the foundation’s researchers documented a meeting with her last February. During the meeting, cannabaro, who uses a wheelchair, appeared smiling and cheerful as she recounted her memories, including her miniature paintings of wildflowers and her passion for prayer.

The origins of kanabaru

Cannabaro hails from a large family in the south of Brazil, she is the granddaughter of a famous Brazilian general who participated in the period of unrest that followed Brazil’s independence from Portugal in the XIX century. She devoted her life to education and religious service, worked as a teacher for decades, founded two musical ensembles in schools on the Brazilian-Uruguayan border.

Cannabaro is a fan of the Brazilian football club Inter, where the club celebrates her birthday annually, and her room is decorated in the colors of the red and white team, and she ranked Twentieth in the list of the oldest documented centenarians in history, which is led by the Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who lived 122 years.
