A “Vile” On-Screen Kiss: Game of Thrones Stars Reunite, But Not as Siblings

It was a role-reversal that neither of them were prepared for. In a candid interview, “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner revealed that kissing her former co-star, Kit Harington, in their new film was a “vile” and “retching” experience. The two actors, who famously played half-siblings Sansa Stark and Jon Snow for eight seasons, have reunited as romantic leads in the upcoming gothic horror film, The Dreadful, a transition that has proven to be as awkward as it was bizarre for both of them.

Headline Points:

 * From Siblings to Lovers: Sophie Turner and Kit Harington, known to millions as Sansa Stark and Jon Snow, have been cast as romantic interests in the new film The Dreadful.

 * A “Vile” Experience: During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Turner confessed that the first kissing scene with Harington was so uncomfortable that they were both “retching.”

 * “Oh, Shoot, That’s My Brother”: Turner, who is also a producer on the film, revealed she cast Harington for the part but didn’t realize the intimate nature of the role until she re-read the script.

 * Worse Than Cockroaches: When asked by the host if the kiss was worse than a scene where she had to endure real cockroaches and rats for a different film, Turner was blunt in her answer, confirming that the on-screen kiss was indeed “the worst.”

A Family Bond Too Strong to Break

The revelation from Sophie Turner highlights the unusual challenges that actors face when their professional and personal relationships intersect in unexpected ways. For over a decade, the public has watched Turner and Harington as siblings on screen, and the actors themselves developed a close, familial bond while filming the HBO series. This deep-seated platonic relationship, it turns out, made the shift to playing romantic leads an almost unbearable experience.

Speaking to host Seth Meyers, Turner explained that she was a producer on The Dreadful and immediately thought of Kit Harington for the male lead. The script for the film, a 15th-century gothic horror, was so good that she sent it to him without a second thought. She then received a message back from Harington that read, “Yeah, I’d love to, but this is going to be really f—ing weird, Soph.”

At first, Turner was confused by his comment. It was only when she looked back at the script’s intimate scenes that she had a moment of startling realization: “And then I’m reading it and I’m like, ‘Kiss, kiss, sex, kiss, sex…’ And then I’m like, ‘Oh, shoot, that’s my brother.'”

Despite their mutual hesitation, the pair decided the project was too compelling to pass up. They attempted to put their familial bond out of their minds, but the awkwardness came to a head on their first day of shooting the romantic scenes.

“We put it out of our minds, and then we get on set and it’s the first kissing scene, and we are both retching,” Turner admitted, laughing with the host and audience. “Like, really, it is vile. It was the worst. Another really bad moment in my career.”

Her frankness prompted a follow-up question from Meyers, who referenced a previous interview where Turner described a difficult scene in another film where she was covered in live cockroaches. Without a moment’s hesitation, Turner confirmed that the awkwardness of kissing Harington was a far worse experience.

The anecdote has resonated with “Game of Thrones” fans and the public at large, many of whom have expressed their own discomfort at the idea of Sansa and Jon being a couple. The lighthearted confession serves as a humorous and humanizing peek behind the curtain of Hollywood filmmaking, where even the most seasoned actors can find themselves in truly bizarre professional situations.
