Background
The CPS authorized the charges in 2024, prior to issuing an extradition warrant to bring the brothers back from Romania. The charges are based on a file of evidence submitted by Bedfordshire Police regarding allegations made in the UK. The brothers were first arrested in Romania in December 2022 on suspicion of rape and human trafficking, which they deny.¹
Extradition
The Tate brothers will be extradited to the UK after the conclusion of the Romanian proceedings. The CPS has stated that the domestic criminal matters in Romania must be settled first before the extradition process can proceed.
