A powerful storm swept through Uttar Pradesh, claiming 45 lives across the state due to heavy winds, thunderstorms, and lightning strikes. The storm, which occurred on the night of Wednesday, May 21, and Thursday, May 22, affected 18 districts, with the worst-hit areas including Kasganj, Fatehpur, Meerut, and Auraiya .
Causes of Death
The majority of the deaths were caused by collapsing structures and strong winds, while two people died after being struck by lightning in Chitrakoot and Ambedkarnagar. In total, lightning strikes accounted for only two of the reported deaths, contrary to initial reports suggesting 13 lightning-related fatalities. The discrepancy may be due to varying reports or updates in the situation.
