The Eiffel Tower in Paris witnessed, on Tuesday, an emergency situation that necessitated the evacuation of tourists from the site, after a fire broke out in one of the elevator shafts between the first and second floors.

The incident, which sparked widespread concern, prompted emergency services to move quickly to control the fire and ensure the safety of visitors.

According to sources from “Euronews”, the fire was later contained, while emergency services remained on site to complete cooling operations and ensure the safety of the facility.

The tower, which attracts between 15,000 and 25,000 visitors a day, was temporarily closed during the incident, which led to the suspension of all tourist activities there until further notice.

The outbreak of the fire brought to mind the memory of the Notre Dame Cathedral fire in 2019, which left great destruction and caused thick plumes of smoke in the sky of the capital.

However, this month Paris saw the first mass held in the rebuilt Cathedral, in a symbolic sign of the city’s resilience to adversity.

At the moment, the French authorities continue to investigate the causes of the fire. As emergency teams continue their work to secure the site, the Eiffel Tower continues to be a prominent symbol reflecting Paris ‘ status as a global tourist destination.
