Ukraine will not join NATO-U.S. envoy says

Date:

The U.S. envoy Kellogg affirmed that Ukraine won’t be a member to NATO

The U.S. envoy Kellogg said to the Ukrainians that they are not going to be part of NATO, and this matter isn’t new to you, as We’ve said it since February 2008, when then-U.S. Ambassador to Russia William Burns told then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that it was too much. I wrote about this in 2013,” Kellogg said.

Kellog added;

““There are workarounds you can use. So don’t start with a problem just by stating it and having no solution — and we do have one. And that applies to everything we’re talking about. We expect to get pretty good results in London next week. At least, that’s my belief,”

From other side NATO Military Committee Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone said that

Ukraine’s NATO membership is not part of the peace negotiations.

On April 16, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Ukraine’s path toward NATO membership remains unchanged and irreversible, although it would not be part of any potential peace deal with Russia.

“The main priority right now – for everyone – is to reach a just, durable peace,” Dragone said.

The Admiral noted that at last year’s summit in Washington, NATO reaffirmed its commitment to Ukraine’s future membership in the Alliance.
