The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lian Jain expressed China’s willingness to work with the international community, including the European Union, to defend international trade rules as well as international fairness and justice on Monday.
Spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks during a daily press briefing when asked to share more information on communication and coordination between China and the European Union regarding the additional US tariffs.
Lin said the United States is using tariffs as a weapon to exert maximum pressure and pursue selfish gains, placing its own interests above the overall benefits of the international community. He noted that this is a typical act of unilateralism, protectionism, and economic bullying, which severely harms the interests of China, the European Union, and the rest of the world.

He explained that China and the European Union, as the second and third largest economies, together account for more than a third of the global economy and more than a quarter of global trade. He added that both sides are advocates of economic globalization and trade liberalization, and staunch advocates and supporters of the World Trade Organization.
He explained, “The EU President emphasized the vital importance of stability and certainty for a healthy global economy. China and the EU are committed to a fair and free multilateral trading system based on the World Trade Organization and to the sound and steady development of global trade and economic relations, which benefits both parties and the rest of the world.”
Lin said that China, as a responsible major country, has already taken decisive measures and will continue to do so to safeguard its legitimate interests.
