The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum announced the successful completion of the British company BP drilling and completion of wells for the two additional wells in the “Raven” gas field in the Mediterranean Sea, using the drilling vessel “Volaris DS-12”, which began drilling during the second half of 2024.

Connecting the two wells on production networks
The ministry explained in a press statement that “offshore installation works are currently being carried out to connect the two wells on the existing production networks in the Mediterranean Sea to start production operations… Gas production from the two new wells is expected to start in February, three months earlier than planned, thanks to the plan to accelerate drilling and installations, “he said.
The statement said:”with the completion of the successful drilling work at the riffin field, the Volaris DS-12 drilling vessel is moving today from the riffin field to begin exploratory drilling in BP’s King area, in the Mediterranean Sea, as the drilling work is aimed at searching for natural gas in the Lower Miocene layer, and it is expected to reach the reservoir by the end of February 2025.

Adding new quantities
The King exploration area is characterized by its proximity to the facilities and offshore pipelines of BP, within the West Nile Delta project, and in the event of a successful exploration operation, this exploration well will be connected to the existing production facilities, allowing the addition of new quantities to production as part of the ministry’s strategy to enhance local production.

Increased activity of drilling operations
The exploratory drilling in the king area comes as an extension of the efforts of the Ministry of Petroleum and mineral resources over the past 6 months to enhance offshore drilling activities in the Mediterranean.
The offshore areas are witnessing an increasing activity of drilling operations, starting from the launch of Chevron drilling in the western Mediterranean at the well “Dagger-1″, through ExxonMobil, which began drilling the well” Nefertari-1″, and the achievement of BP by drilling two development wells in the field” Raven”, up to the resumption of Eni drilling in the field” Zohr “this month.
