Israeli Assault Intensifies on Gaza City, Dozens Killed and Displaced

Date:

Gaza City, Palestine, August 30, 2025

Israeli attacks on Gaza City intensified today, with airstrikes and artillery shelling resulting in dozens of Palestinian deaths and the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of civilians. The escalation comes as the Israeli military presses ahead with its planned offensive to seize control of the largest urban center in the Palestinian territory.

Headlines

 * Relentless Bombardment: The Israeli military is using airstrikes, artillery, and explosive-laden robots to demolish entire neighborhoods in northern and southern Gaza City.

 * Mass Displacement: Hundreds of thousands of residents, many of whom are already displaced, are fleeing to western Gaza City or farther south in the enclave as the assault intensifies.

 * Civilian Casualties Mount: Hospital sources in Gaza report that at least 41 people were killed in Gaza City alone today, with at least 11 of them dying while queuing for bread.

 * “Dangerous Combat Zone” Declared: The Israeli military’s declaration of Gaza City as a “dangerous combat zone” has ended humanitarian pauses in the area, cutting off aid to the starving population.

Residents and Palestinian security sources told Anadolu Agency that the situation in Gaza City’s eastern and southern neighborhoods is “deteriorating at a rapidly accelerating pace” due to the relentless bombardment. Airstrikes have targeted residential blocks and even aid distribution points, where at least 11 Palestinians were killed today while waiting for food.

The ongoing military operations are part of an Israeli plan to reoccupy Gaza, beginning with its largest urban center. The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has warned that the offensive could forcibly displace up to one million people to southern Gaza, where they would be in “concentration zones.” The head of the International Red Cross has also said that such a mass evacuation would be “impossible to conduct safely or with dignity.”

The increased violence and forced displacement come as a humanitarian crisis continues to deepen in Gaza. The UN has repeatedly warned of an impending famine, and local health officials reported today that five more people, including two children, have died from malnutrition in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of starvation-related deaths to 322 since the beginning of the war. As the military assault intensifies, the future of Gaza City’s population remains uncertain.
